Which way you're going
North — Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland
Up the A1 or the M1 · A1 / M1 / M6
The longest direction, and the one where the route is an actual decision rather than a formality. It also covers the widest range of arrivals, from a Leeds terrace to somewhere with no near neighbours at all.

What this direction is like
There is a genuine choice of road, and it is not always the obvious one. The A1 and the M1 do different things at different points and the right answer depends on where exactly you are going and what the traffic is doing on the day.
For anything beyond the central belt, the journey stops being a drive and becomes a logistics question. That is entirely routine and it means the day is planned rather than simply started early.
Scotland brings its own paperwork on the property side — a different legal system, different conveyancing and different terms for things. It does not change the removal, but it does mean the dates behave differently from an English chain.
Weather is a real input on the northern legs in the colder part of the year. Not a reason not to go; a reason to have some give in the plan.
Arrivals vary enormously. A city-centre flat in Leeds and a rural property in Northumberland are opposite ends of the access spectrum and both are common on this direction.
What we do about it
Choose the route for your actual destination rather than defaulting to one road
Plan the day properly for the longer legs rather than pretending they are ordinary
Allow for conditions in the colder part of the year, and tell you honestly when a window needs to be looser
Check access at the far end, particularly for anything rural or anything above the ground floor
Watch for
Thinking of Scotland as further England. The property process differs, and that changes how your dates behave rather than how the van drives.
